The basic guide to understanding horoscopes

The basic guide to understanding horoscopes

Horoscopes are astrological charts. They represent the relationship between various celestial bodies such as the Sun, the moon, planets, sensitive angles, and astrological aspects, at the moment of a person’s birth.

The term horoscope was derived from two Greek words, ōra, which translates as time and scoops, which means observer. So, this means a horoscope is a rather complicated calendar that is based on the positions of celestial bodies.

There are different types of horoscopes, which vary from culture to culture. Each one is deeply rooted within the beliefs of the people and can have a considerable influence on their lives.

Some cultures believe being born during certain months and years is a sign of luck, while others arrange marriages based on the horoscopes of the couple.

The horoscopes typically used in the West are based on Sun sign astrology. This is a much more simplified form of horoscope reading that most people can understand.

It involves dividing the ecliptic (the apparent pathway the Sun seems to follow in the Earth’s sky) of the Sun into 12 30-degree sectors. Each sector is named after the particular constellation it was passing through at the time of naming.

These are what are commonly known as zodiac signs. The 12 zodiac signs in Western astrology are:

Aries,

Taurus,

Gemini

Cancer

Leo

Virgo

Libra

Scorpio

Sagittarius

Capricorn

Aquarius, and

Pisces.

Some people believe in the ancient principle as it is above, so also below. According to them, the particular zodiac signs a person is born under influences their personality, strengths and weaknesses, relationships with people under different symbols, and much more.

Each particular zodiac sign has specific characteristics and earthly manifestations attributed to it. So, what does your zodiac say about you? Let us find out.

Aries- The Ram

March 20 to April 21

Element: Fire

Celestial ruler: Mars

People born under Aries tend to be energetic, lively, and out-going. They have this creative spark that manifests in so many forms. They should be careful, however, as their impatience can quickly get them in loads of trouble.

Taurus- The Bull

April 21 to May 21

Element: Earth

Celestial ruler: Venus

People born under this constellation of the moon can be placid giants, just like their patron animal. Slow to anger and rational, but once angered, they have a scary temper and can be quite destructive. Loyal to a fault, their downfall may be due to them being too trusting.

Gemini- The Twins

May 21 and June 21

Element: Air

Celestial ruler: Mercury

Geminis are just as active and creative as the Aries, but while an Aries needs to be physically active, a Gemini prefers mental stimulation. They need to be constantly visually stimulated. Unfortunately, they are easily distracted and prone to daydreaming.

Cancer- The Crab

June 22 to July 22

Element: Water

Celestial ruler: Moon

Cancers are the empathic homemakers. They have a strong ability to feel and understand the pain of others. They are loyal allies and can put up a fight if a friend is being threatened. They are dependable and trustworthy. Their fatal flaw is that they may be over-sensitive and moody.

Leo- The Lion

July 23 to August 23

Element: Fire

Celestial ruler: Sun

Like their celestial ruler, Leos like being the center of attention. They are loud but not lousy, bubbly, and sweet. They can sometimes be over-friendly, even to the point of being annoying. Lovable but quick to anger. They are as beautiful as the Sun and just as hot.

Virgo- The Virgin

August 23 to September 22

 Element: Earth

Celestial ruler: Mercury

This category of people is shrewd and skeptical. Virgos are always asking questions. Classically they are over thinkers and have to be sure before they make a decision. Their skepticism and hesitation may be tiring. But in the end, it is a much-needed opposite to some of the more impatient signs.

Libra- The Scales

September 23 to October 22

Element: Air

Celestial ruler: Venus

As expected, Libras are perfectly balanced. Cool, calm, collected, and rational to a fault, Libras act as the perfect peacekeepers among the other signs. They can sometimes come across as perfectionist or obsessive, but only because they want the best for everyone.

Scorpio- The Scorpion

October 23 to November 22

Element: Water

Celestial ruler: Pluto

Scorpios can only be described in one word, intense whether they are brooding silently or speaking passionately about something they admire. Sometimes they may come off as abrasive, but they are just passionate.

Sagittarius- The Centaur

November 23 and December 21

Element: Fire

Celestial ruler: Jupiter

Always the life of the party. They are also fun to be with and lively. You will always find them egging on others at parties. They are funny and know how to make strangers feel like part of the gang. They tend to sulk when their friendliness is turned away, though.

Capricorn- The Goat

December 21 to January 21

Element: Earth

Celestial ruler: Saturn

Capricorn’s are always busy. While Aries and Gemini are excitable, Capricorns are taciturn workers. They prefer to get the job done as efficiently as possible, with as a few words as possible. They may sometimes come off as cold or unfeeling, but that’s just because they have a hard time expressing their emotions.

Aquarius- The Water Bearer

January 21 and about February 20

Element: Air

Celestial ruler: Saturn and Uranus

Natural born leaders, Aquarius, always seem to take charge of their perky personality. They are still at the frontline of every rally, fighting for every cause. They feel so passionate about everything that they take it personally when told that they cannot save the world.

Pisces- The Fish

February 19 and March 20

Element: Water

Celestial ruler: Jupiter and Neptune

Pisces are sensitive and empathetic. They have this almost psychic ability to read others. If you have a problem and need some advice, a Pisces is a great option. They are easily offended and can be overly sensitive at times, but are still great friends.
